Nursing Scholarships and Financial Aid

Financing your nursing degree can be a challenge, but it should not be an insurmountable obstacle. There are many different scholarships for nursing students, as well as grants and loan programs dedicated to helping nurses pay for their education.

Listed below are scholarships, grants, loan repayment programs and more aid for nursing students. For each category, nationwide opportunities are listed first, followed by states in alphabetical order.

Scholarships for Nursing Students

After College/AACN Nursing Scholarship Fund
Amount: $2,500
Description: This scholarship is for students seeking a baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. Special consideration is given to students in graduate programs with the goal of becoming nurse educators; students completing RN-to-BSN or RN-to-MSN programs; and those enrolled in accelerated programs.

American Addiction Centers’ Behavioral Health Academic Scholarship
Amount: $2,500 to $5,000
Description: This scholarship is for high school graduates and full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students who are entering or enrolled in academic programs in nursing, counseling, psychology, social work, marriage/family therapy or other curricula focused on treating mental health and substance use disorders.

American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Geraldine “Polly” Bednash Scholarship
Amount: $5,000
Description: This scholarship is for nursing school applicants in baccalaureate or higher degree programs at AACN member institutions affiliated with CastleBranch or NursingCAS. Scholarship applicants must maintain at least a 3.2 GPA.

American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ Continuing Professional Development Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is for AACN members looking to continue their professional and personal growth.

AAOHN Scholarships
Amount: $1,500
Description: AAOHN offers two scholarships for leadership fees. Both scholarships are awarded to licensed occupational health and environmental nurses who are dedicated to developing leadership skills to provide for and ensure the health and safety of workers in the workplace. One is dedicated to funds for a leadership program and another to cover the cost of the AAOHN National Conference.

Description: This scholarship is for LPNs and other care providers to become registered nurses, or for registered nurses to pursue advanced nursing degrees.

Danish Sisterhood of American’s Elizabeth Garde National Scholarship

Dermatology Nurses’ Association’s Graduate Nurse Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is for a post-high school student or graduate student seeking a degree in nursing or other medical profession. Minimum 3.0 GPA required. This award can only be won once.

Exceptional Nurse Scholarships
Amount: $250-500
Description: ExceptionalNurse.com offers several scholarships for nursing students with a disability or medical challenge. Each scholarship has additional requirements and preference for awards.

Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) Scholarships
Amount: $1,000 to $7,500
Description: This FNSNA offers two scholarship programs, general and promise of nursing. The general scholarship program is open to all currently enrolled nursing students, typically awarded to those focusing on a specialty. The Promise of Nursing scholarship program is for undergraduate nursing students enrolled at a school of nursing within an eligible Promise of Nursing state.

FNSNA’s Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship Program
Amount: $1,000 to $7,500
Description: This fellowship program is for registered nurses enrolled in graduate-level, degree-granting colleges and universities to prepare for roles as nurse educators. Applicants must be U.S. citizens currently taking six or more credits in eligible zip codes, where they are committed to staying upon completion of their education. Applicants should also demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

HRSA Health Workforce’s NURSE Corps Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is for nursing students pursuing diplomas or associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degrees. Preference is given to those with financial need. Funding is in exchange for a commitment to work at an eligible facility with a critical shortage of nurses following graduation.
